For users in Indonesia, the Indonesian text is the one that governs. Read it in Indonesian

Draft: awaiting review by legal counsel. Not yet in force. Its content may change after the review. Parts still awaiting a decision are marked with square brackets, [like this].

1. Summary

#
  • The Patepang name, the wordmark in Sundanese script, and the Patepang icon are our marks. You may refer to Patepang honestly, but you must not use those marks in a way that makes people think something comes from us or is endorsed by us.
  • The content you create remains yours. Send only content you are allowed to share.
  • Content on Patepang is end-to-end encrypted. We cannot read it, search it, or scan it, and we cannot delete copies that are already on other people's phones.
  • Infringement inside Patepang is reported through Report in the app by the person who received the content. Human moderators read the reported copy and decide on a sanction for the sender's account.
  • Objections to Patepang's own websites or app, and imitations of Patepang outside the app, are sent to [email protected].

2. About this policy

#

This policy is made by PT Pakuan Teknologi Pangrango (“we”) for the Patepang app and the patepang.com website and its subdomains. It explains Patepang's marks and copyright, and how we handle claims that something on Patepang infringes someone else's copyright or trademark.

This policy works together with the Terms and conditions, which prohibit violating the law or other people's rights through Patepang, and the Community guidelines, which govern reports, moderation, and appeals. The license of Patepang's code and the third-party software are explained in Licenses and open source. [Whether this policy becomes part of the Terms and conditions agreed to in the app: awaiting the owner's decision and review by legal counsel]

In Indonesia, copyright and marks are governed by, among others, Undang-Undang No. 28 Tahun 2014 tentang Hak Cipta (Law No. 28 of 2014 on Copyright) and Undang-Undang No. 20 Tahun 2016 tentang Merek dan Indikasi Geografis (Law No. 20 of 2016 on Marks and Geographical Indications). This policy does not reduce anyone's rights under those laws.

3. Patepang's marks

#

The marks we use for Patepang:

The name Patepang
From Sundanese, meaning “meeting each other”.
Wordmark
The word patepang in Sundanese script, in five parts: pa, ta, pamepet, pa, and panyecek. Its shapes are built from their own geometry, not typed with a font.
Icon
The letter PA in Sundanese script, white on soft blue, with dark, round, and one-color versions.

We use these marks for the Patepang app, websites, and service, and do not permit their use except as written in section 4. [Registration status of the Patepang mark (application or registration number, classes, and owner): awaiting the owner]

4. Using the Patepang name and logo

#

You may use the name Patepang to talk about Patepang honestly, for example in news, reviews, research, or when inviting people to install it from the App Store or Google Play.

If you show the Patepang wordmark or icon, for example next to an article about Patepang, follow these rules:

  • take it from the official logo files; do not redraw, slant, stretch, or type it with a Sundanese-script font;
  • show it flat, without gradients, shadows, or embossing;
  • make the wordmark at least 72 pixels wide, or about 20 mm in print, with empty space on each side of about a tenth of its width;
  • use its official colors, soft blue, deep blue, or white, depending on the background; solid black or white only for one-ink print that cannot be blue, such as newspapers or stamps;
  • give it the alternative text “Patepang”.

You must not:

  • use the Patepang name, wordmark, or icon so that people think you are Patepang, work with us, or are endorsed by us;
  • use them, or a similar mark, as the name or icon of your own app, website, account, domain, or product;
  • pose as Patepang to ask for a PIN, six words, codes, or money, which the Community guidelines also prohibit;
  • make merchandise with Patepang's marks.

Other uses need our written permission; ask for it at [email protected]. [Where the media can download the official logo files: awaiting the owner]

5. Copyright in Patepang

#

The text, images, illustrations, and design in the Patepang app and on its websites are protected by copyright; Patepang's websites carry © 2026 PT Pakuan Teknologi Pangrango. Patepang's code uses the AGPL-3.0-only license and will be opened at the public launch (Licenses and open source). Third-party components, such as the Plus Jakarta Sans typeface and Phosphor icons, stay under their own licenses.

The content you send through Patepang does not belong to us (section 6). If you think part of Patepang's websites or app infringes your rights, write to us (section 9).

6. Your content and other people's rights

#

Messages, updates, moments, photos, and other content that you create remain yours. You give us permission only to the extent needed to store that content and deliver it, in encrypted form, to the people you choose (Terms and conditions). We cannot read it.

Send only content you made yourself or are allowed to share. This matters most in the parts of Patepang that spread content to many people at once:

  • sticker packs, which are made from photos you choose and which you can share with your connections;
  • updates and moments, which reach all your connections, one circle, or the people who were there;
  • group albums and group photos, which the group's members see, up to 50 people;
  • event room boards, which the room's participants read;
  • files and videos of up to 100 MB, or 4 GB for subscribers, such as films, music, books, or software.

Other people's rights are not only copyright. A photo of someone also concerns their privacy, and sending intimate images without permission is prohibited by the Community guidelines. Using someone else's name or logo to pose as them is fraud.

Link previews on Patepang are made only from the address: the app does not fetch the content of the linked page.

7. What we can and cannot do

#

Content on Patepang is end-to-end encrypted on the phone and only opens on its recipients' phones. That limits what we can do about an infringement claim.

7.1 What we cannot do

  • Read, search, or scan content. The server cannot read it, and there is no automatic scanning or matching of content against lists of works.
  • See content that was not reported. Patepang has no public profiles, people search, or open feeds: content only reaches the people its sender chose.
  • Find an account or the person behind it from a name. We do not store anyone's name, phone number, or email, and the app does not show account IDs.
  • Delete copies that have already reached their recipients' phones. “Delete for everyone” and disappearing messages are promises of the app, not technical guarantees.

7.2 What we can do

  • Human moderators read the copy of the content that its recipient reported, together with a signed statement from the account that wrote it, then decide on a sanction for that account (section 10).
  • Sanctions apply to the sender's account. If an account is blocked, the sticker packs it shared are removed from the phones of the people who received them.
  • We examine objections to Patepang's websites and app ourselves, because that content is ours.

8. Reporting from the app

#

If content you received on Patepang infringes your copyright or trademark, or the rights of someone you represent:

  1. Select the content, then Report.
  2. In What is the problem?, choose Other, or another category that fits better, for example Fraud if someone poses as a brand.
  3. Choose the language of the content.
  4. In Note for moderators, write which work or mark is infringed, who holds the rights, and why the content is not permitted, in 500 characters at most.
  5. Press Send report.

Your category and note are sealed for the moderators only; the server cannot read them. The server does not store who the reporter is, and the reported account is not told who made the report. Content that has already appeared on your phone can be reported for up to 30 days from when it arrived, even if its sender has deleted it. With the report's receipt, you can follow the status and decision of the case.

Photos in group albums, group photos, and sticker packs do not have a Report button yet; a way to report them is coming later.

Before disconnecting, you can report first, then use Save evidence to save the conversation as a file together with the statements of its authors, for example for a lawyer (Community guidelines).

9. Notices by email

#

Write to [email protected] if:

  • you hold rights, or represent someone who does, and believe Patepang itself infringes them, for example through its websites, app, name, or logo;
  • an app, website, or account outside Patepang poses as Patepang or uses its marks. For the public, the Patepang app is only distributed through the App Store and Google Play;
  • you hold the rights to content circulating on Patepang, but did not receive it yourself.

Include:

  • your name, postal address, and email address, and, if you represent the rights holder, the basis of your authority;
  • the protected work or mark, with its registration number if there is one;
  • what you believe infringes and where: the address of the website or app, or, for content on Patepang, the feature where it appeared and the date;
  • a statement that the use is not permitted by the rights holder or by law, and that your information is true.

Do not send anyone's PIN, six words, or codes; we never ask for them. [Required content of a notice under Indonesian law, the signature needed, and the time within which we answer: awaiting review by legal counsel]

For content inside Patepang, an email alone is not enough for us to act. We cannot find content from a description, because the server cannot read it, and we do not act on an account because of an email or a phone call. We answer and explain the way forward: the content is reported from the app by the person who received it (section 8). For Patepang's own websites and app, we examine your claim and, if it is correct, change or take down the infringing part.

10. Decisions, objections, and appeals

#

Patepang's moderators are human. For a report of infringement, a moderator examines the reported copy and the reporter's note, then decides: dismiss the report, give a warning, restrict the account for 30 days, suspend it for 7 or 30 days, or block it. A block needs the approval of a second moderator. Every decision comes with a written reason that the account owner reads in the app. The reporter reads the same decision through their receipt, without the evidence and without anyone's name.

If your content is reported and you are sure you have the right to use it, for example because you own it, have permission, or the use is allowed by law, file an appeal from the moderation status in the app: once for each case, within 30 days after the decision. An appeal is reviewed by a moderator who was not involved in the first decision, who examines the case again; if the decision is overturned, its sanction is lifted. A dismissed report cannot be appealed. [How an account owner includes an explanation or proof of permission, for example a license to the work, when filing an appeal: awaiting a decision and its building]

The details are in the Community guidelines.

11. Repeat infringement

#

Reports about one account are combined into one case while that case is open, and the account's standing is calculated from all decisions still in force. Repeated infringement can lead to a restriction, a suspension, or a block. A block is publicly visible in the account's key chain, so other people's apps show that the key has been blocked for a violation, and event rooms that the account opened are closed. [Rules for repeat infringers of copyright or trademarks (how many times, within how long, and the sanction): awaiting the owner's decision]

12. Mistaken reports

#

Report only if you are sure the content infringes rights, and do not use reports to pressure other people. Moderators dismiss reports that are not proven. One account can send at most 10 reports a day, and one device 20. Because the server does not store who the reporter is, a mistaken report has no consequence for the reporter's account; what guards against misuse is that limit and the moderators' examination.

13. Court decisions and requests from authorities

#

Court decisions and requests from government agencies about intellectual property rights are recorded like other requests from authorities and the government. A request must name an account ID, because we cannot look up accounts by identity, and we can only give what is on the server, which holds no content in readable form. The details are on the Transparency page, and every request is counted in the transparency report. [How we handle court decisions and orders from agencies about intellectual property rights, including duties to take content down under Peraturan Menteri Kominfo No. 5 Tahun 2020 (Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 5 of 2020): awaiting review by legal counsel]

14. Changes to this policy

#

This policy can change, for example after review by legal counsel or when new ways to report arrive. We announce important changes on this page and on the status page before they take effect. [Notice of changes inside the app: awaiting a decision and its building]

15. Contact
