For users in Indonesia, the Indonesian text is the one that governs. Read it in Indonesian

Draft: awaiting review by legal counsel. Not yet in force. Its content may change after the review. Parts still awaiting a decision are marked with square brackets, [like this].

1. Summary

#
  • All of Patepang's features are free. A subscription only raises the media space on the server to 100 GB, and the size of files and videos you can send to 4 GB.
  • In Indonesia, the subscription costs Rp49.000 per month or Rp499.000 per year, with a 14-day free trial for new subscribers.
  • Purchases, automatic renewal, stopping, and refunds are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your card or bank account.
  • The subscription keeps running until you stop it in the store. Deleting your Patepang account does not stop it.
  • When the subscription ends, media already stored stays. If it exceeds your free space, new uploads are held, and after 12 months the oldest media for updates, moments, and stickers is deleted.
  • The subscription is tied to your Patepang account, not to your phone. The server records your subscription status, but does not record the price, your payment method, or the identity of your store account.

2. Plans

#

All of Patepang's features are free for everyone. A subscription only increases the media space on the server and the size of files that can be sent.

Free plan and subscription
What you getFreeSubscription
PriceRp0Rp49.000 per month, or Rp499.000 per year
FeaturesAllAll
Media space on the server5 GB, plus the second-meeting bonus (at most 10 GB), so at most 15 GB100 GB
File sizeUp to 100 MBUp to 4 GB

Files over 64 MB are sent in parts. The app sends them in parts of 16 MB, and resumes the remaining parts if sending is interrupted. The file size limit applies to every file and video you send in messages and groups.

The annual plan saves Rp89.000 compared with 12 months. You can switch between the monthly and annual plans in the store. Section 8 explains how. Sharing through Family Sharing is not available. A subscription shared with family members does not carry the identifier of their Patepang account, so it cannot apply to their account.

One subscription applies to one Patepang account, the account that bought it. Sizes on this page are written as in the app: 1 GB equals 1,024 MB.

3. Free trial

#

New subscribers get a 14-day free trial, once for each store account. One store account means one Apple ID on the App Store, or one Google account on Google Play. The store decides whether you can still get a free trial; Patepang's server neither grants nor refuses it. If the store offers it to you, the plan card on the Subscription screen says so, for example “Free for the first 14 days”. If not, for example because your store account has already used it for another Patepang account, the subscription is billed as soon as you buy.

During the free trial, your space and file size are the same as a subscriber's. The Subscription screen says until when the free trial runs. Once the store reports a free trial for your account, the server records that the free trial has been used, and that record is not deleted while your account exists.

If it is not stopped before the free trial ends, the subscription continues and is billed by the store. To avoid being billed, stop the subscription in the store's subscription settings before the free trial ends (section 9). If you stop it during the free trial, subscriber space lasts until the time the store reports.

Media you upload during the free trial stays stored after the free trial ends. If it exceeds your free space, section 14 applies.

4. Subscribing

#

A subscription and tips can start after your first tempel, from the Patepang app on iPhone or Android. A purchase needs the internet.

  1. Open Settings, then Subscription.
  2. In Choose a plan, choose Monthly or Annual. Its price and period are read from the store.
  3. Press Subscribe, then complete the purchase in the App Store or Google Play sheet.

After the store sells, Patepang's server asks Apple or Google about that purchase directly. The app completes the purchase in the store only after the server has accepted it. If the connection drops along the way, your purchase stays stored in the store and is checked again when the app reconnects or is opened again. On Google Play, a purchase that is not completed within three days is refunded by Google Play. If the store is still waiting for a payment or an approval, the screen says so, and the purchase is checked after the store completes it. If your purchase is not recorded in Patepang yet, press Restore purchases to check the purchases of the store account on that phone again.

You cannot subscribe:

  • before your first tempel;
  • while your account's deletion is scheduled (section 17);
  • if your account already has a subscription through another phone or store account. The screen says your subscription is already active, and you manage it where you bought it, so that there is no double subscription.

A subscription not bought through the app, for example an offer code redeemed directly in the App Store, carries no Patepang account's identifier, so no account can use it. A subscription that the same store account bought for another Patepang account is also not used or replaced from your account.

5. Payment through the store

#

The subscription is bought, renewed automatically every period, and billed through your App Store or Google Play account, until you stop it in the store's subscription settings. The price that applies is the price the store shows when you buy.

We do not receive and do not store your card, bank account, or payment method. Your payment method, billing dates, and proof of purchase are handled by the store, under that store's terms, and your purchase history is in your store account.

When the subscription renews, changes, or ends, Apple or Google notifies Patepang's server, and the server then asks the store directly about its state. The app also checks your subscription when it is opened. As soon as its access period has passed by the server's clock, your account is on the free plan again.

6. Prices, currencies, and taxes

#

The prices above are the prices in Indonesia; outside Indonesia, the store sets an equivalent price. Prices are set in the App Store and Google Play, not in the app. The app shows the price the store gives as it is, together with its period and any free trial the store offers you. The currency and price shown follow the country of your store account. The home region you choose in the app does not change the price.

[Taxes on the subscription and tips, for example VAT (PPN), whether they are included in the price the store shows, who collects and remits them, and what proof of payment you receive: awaiting review by legal counsel and the store settings]

7. Price changes

#

Prices can change; changes for a subscription that is currently running follow the store's rules. Prices are changed in the App Store and Google Play, without an app update. A new purchase uses the price the store shows at that time.

We do not have your email address or phone number, so we cannot write to you directly. The store, which knows your store account, tells subscribers about price changes to a running subscription under its rules. If you do not agree with a new price, stop the subscription before the next renewal (section 9). [Notice from Patepang itself before the subscription price changes, through the status page, patepang.com, or the app, and how long in advance: awaiting the owner's decision]

8. Changing plans

#

You can switch between the monthly and annual plans with Change plan on the Subscription screen, or in the store's subscription settings. The store carries out the switch:

  • Google Play: the new plan applies right away, and the remaining time of the old plan is taken into account.
  • App Store: switching to a plan of another length usually applies at the next renewal. The screen says that the store has accepted your request, and that the plan changes when the store carries it out.

If your payment currently has a problem on the App Store, fix the payment first; the plan can be changed afterwards (section 11).

A subscription on the App Store cannot be moved to Google Play, or the other way around. If you move from iPhone to Android or the other way around, the old subscription keeps running and is billed in the old store until you stop it there (section 18). Your account holds one subscription: if there are two, the server uses the one whose access lasts longest.

9. Stopping the subscription

#

Stop the subscription in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings, on a phone that uses the same store account. From the app, open Subscription, then Manage in the App Store or Manage in Google Play; the store's subscription settings open. If your subscription was bought through another phone or store account, stop it from there.

The subscription stays in effect until the end of the period already paid for, then ends. After that, every feature keeps working, and media already stored stays. If that media exceeds your free space, new uploads are held (section 14).

Deleting your Patepang account does not stop the subscription in the store. Stop the subscription first, then delete your account.

Moderation decisions do not stop the subscription either. If your account is restricted, suspended, or blocked, the store keeps billing until you stop it, and the Subscription screen still shows the way to the store's subscription settings. [Refunds for the rest of the period when an account is suspended or blocked: awaiting the owner's decision and review by legal counsel]

10. Refunds

#

Because payment is processed by the store, refunds are also requested from the store, according to their policies:

This also applies to tips. We do not see your payment or your store account, so only the store can check a particular charge.

If the store refunds or revokes a subscription, the store reports it, and the server records that subscription as ended. Your account returns to the free plan, and if your media exceeds the free space, section 14 applies.

Your rights as a consumer under Undang-Undang No. 8 Tahun 1999 tentang Perlindungan Konsumen (Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection) still apply. Section 19 gives the details. If there is a problem with a purchase that is not resolved through the store, write to [email protected]. Describe the problem, the store, the plan, and the date of purchase. We never ask for your PIN, account ID, or codes by email. [Whether and how Patepang itself refunds or gives other compensation when the problem is our fault: awaiting the owner's decision and review by legal counsel]

11. If payment fails

#

If the store fails to charge for a renewal, your subscription enters the grace period the store gives. During the grace period, your space and file size stay the same as a subscriber's. On the App Store, the grace period lasts at most 16 days; on Google Play, it lasts as long as Google Play reports. The Subscription screen says that your payment has a problem in the store and until when the subscription stays in effect.

Fix your payment method in the store; if it is not fixed by the time the grace period ends, your subscription ends. The store may keep trying to charge or put the subscription on hold under its rules, but Patepang treats it as ended. If you fix the payment and the store restores the same subscription, your subscription applies again as soon as the store reports it or the app checks it.

On the App Store, while billing is being retried, your phone may not see that subscription. The screen then asks you to fix the payment first; the plan can be changed afterwards.

12. What uses media space

#

Media space is used by all media the server stores for you, for as long as that media is stored: photos, voice notes, and files you send in messages and groups (until every recipient has fetched them, at most 30 days), event room media for as long as the room exists, account backups, and media for updates, moments, stickers, and profile photos. Videos and video notes you send in messages are included too.

  • Update media: photos and voice recordings in updates, profile photos, photos you add to group albums, and group photos you set.
  • Moment media: photos, clips, and voice notes in moments.
  • Stickers: sticker packs you create.

Each piece of media counts against the account that uploaded it. Media for updates, moments, and stickers stays stored until you delete it. Message media is deleted as soon as every recipient device has fetched it, after 30 days at most. Event room media is deleted at most a week after it was uploaded. An account backup is replaced by the next backup.

Event room albums are being built and are coming later.

Each piece of media counts slightly larger than its original size, because its size is rounded up inside the encryption. You can see the space used and its limit in Storage and Subscription, in Settings.

If your space is full, you also cannot send photos or files in messages until there is space again. The app says why the item has not been sent and when space comes back; its copy stays on your phone.

13. Second-meeting bonus

#

Second-meeting bonus: when you do a tempel with someone again, at least 24 hours after your first direct tempel together, you both get 500 MB of media space, once for each pair. The bonus is at most 10 GB, so a free account's space is at most 15 GB. The bonus is only for free accounts.

The bonus you have earned is recorded on your account on the server. While you subscribe, your space is 100 GB and the bonus does not count; if you return to the free plan, that bonus counts again. The Subscription screen states your free space, including the bonus. The bonus is deleted together with your account.

14. If space exceeds the quota

#

If the media you store exceeds your quota, for example after the subscription ends, the media already there is not deleted right away:

  • new uploads are held until you have enough space again;
  • you are notified 3 months, 1 month, and 1 week before the 12-month limit;
  • after 12 months, the oldest media for updates, moments, and stickers is deleted until it fits; account backups are never deleted because of the quota.

Each notification offers Save to phone. Photos in group albums and your part of shared moments also disappear for other people if they are deleted.

While uploads are held, photos, videos, voice notes, and files not yet sent stay on your phone, and the app says why they have not been sent. Storage, in Settings, says since when your space has exceeded the limit and when the oldest media is deleted if your space stays over; Subscription says the same. A notification only arrives if you allow notifications. It contains only a neutral sentence, “Notice from Patepang.”, so that the lock screen reveals nothing, and tapping it opens Storage.

Save to phone shows the media that would be deleted according to that phone's records, starting with the oldest. You choose what to keep; photos are saved to the gallery, and recordings are handed to the phone's share sheet. The list does not include media uploaded from another device or before the app was reinstalled. Saving to the phone changes nothing on the server.

The server deletes by upload time, oldest first, in no order by type. If your profile photo is deleted, your phone uploads it again. If only your account backup puts you over, uploads stay held, but that backup is not deleted. The hold ends as soon as the stored media fits again, for example after you delete some of it or subscribe again.

15. Tip

#

If you want to support Patepang without subscribing, there is a one-time tip of Rp15.000, Rp50.000, or Rp150.000. A tip does not add features or space, and is not recorded on your account.

A tip is bought through the App Store or Google Play from the Subscription screen, in the One-time tip part, and does not renew. Like the subscription, a tip can be given after your first tempel and not while your account's deletion is scheduled. One phone can give at most 20 tips a day.

A tip purchase does not carry your Patepang account's identifier, so the store cannot link that tip to your account. The server only counts the number of tips each day, without the account, the amount, or the product; the hash of its transaction ID is kept for 30 days so that one tip is not counted twice. The list of tips you have given is stored only on the phone you used to give them. Refunds for tips are requested from the store (section 10).

16. What is recorded about your subscription

#

The server records your subscription status, until when it is in effect, the store where you bought it, whether the free trial has been used, a random identifier that links the purchase to your account, and, while the subscription is running, a hash of the subscription ID from the store (see the Privacy policy).

  • That random identifier is made by the server for your account and carried by every subscription purchase. It is also stored at Apple or Google with your purchase, so they can link it to your store account. So Patepang's data combined with Apple's or Google's records can show who owns an account (see Transparency).
  • The hash of the subscription ID is made with a secret key of the server, so that someone who reads the database cannot reverse it. It is deleted when the subscription ends, after its grace period.
  • The server does not store the price, your payment method, the identity of your store account, or receipts. Receipts and transaction IDs sent for checking are not written to the server's logs.
  • The server counts the subscriptions started each day by country, without accounts; a country used by fewer than 5 accounts that day is counted as “other”.
  • Your phone keeps a copy of the server's answer: the status, until when, and whether the free trial has been used. The plan and renewal are read from the store each time, without being stored.

The subscription record on the server is kept for as long as your account exists, then deleted together with your account. How long each piece of data is kept is in the Privacy policy.

17. Subscriptions and account deletion

#

A subscription on the App Store or Google Play does not stop by itself when your account is deleted. The Delete account screen reminds you of this and opens the store's subscription settings. Deletion with a code from a browser does not stop the subscription either (see Deleting an account without the app).

While a deletion is scheduled, during the 7-day grace period, you cannot subscribe or give a tip; cancel the deletion first if you want to. After the account is deleted, the server deletes its subscription record together with the account's other data. A subscription in the store that you have not stopped keeps being billed, and cannot be used by another Patepang account. Refunds for the rest of the period are requested from the store (section 10).

An account that is inactive for 12 months is also deleted, with a reminder by notification in the 11th month if you allow notifications. That rule also applies to an account whose subscription is still running, and the deletion does not stop the subscription in the store. [Whether accounts with a running subscription are exempt from deletion for inactivity: awaiting the owner's decision and review by legal counsel]

18. Account recovery and new phones

#

The subscription is tied to your Patepang account through the random identifier in section 16, not to a phone or a store account.

  • Recovering your account through guardians: your account stays the same, so its subscription comes along. If the purchase is not recorded on the new phone yet, open Subscription and press Restore purchases.
  • Using a phone with another store account, or moving between iPhone and Android: the subscription stays in the store where you bought it. The screen says your subscription is already active but not through the store account on this phone; manage or stop it from the phone or store account you subscribed with.
  • Reinstalling the app or using a new phone without recovery: you create a new Patepang account. The old subscription still belongs to the old account and cannot be moved to the new one; the app on the new account says the subscription on that store account was bought for another Patepang account. Stop or manage the old subscription in the store's subscription settings.

We cannot move a subscription from one account to another: we do not know who owns an account, and we do not act on an account because of an email or a phone call. How to recover an account is in the backup and recovery guide.

19. Your rights as a consumer

#

Undang-Undang No. 8 Tahun 1999 tentang Perlindungan Konsumen, in particular Article 4, gives you rights including to correct, clear, and honest information about this subscription; to have your opinions and complaints heard; to proper settlement of disputes; and to compensation, damages, or replacement if what you receive does not match the agreement. No part of these terms reduces those rights, or transfers liability that by law may not be transferred.

Your purchase is also governed by the terms of the App Store or Google Play, which process payment, renewal, stopping, and refunds. We are responsible for what the subscription gives you in Patepang, namely the media space and file size in section 2, in accordance with the Terms and conditions.

If there is a problem, contact us first at [email protected]. If it is not resolved, you have the right to settle it through the Badan Penyelesaian Sengketa Konsumen (BPSK, the Consumer Dispute Settlement Body) or the courts, as explained in the Terms and conditions.

20. Changes to these terms

#

These terms can change, for example when prices, plans, or space limits change, or after review by legal counsel. We announce important changes on this page and on the status page before they take effect. Every version of these terms stays readable at its own address, listed in the Versions section at the end of the page. [Notice of changes inside the app, and how changes apply to a subscription that is already running: awaiting the owner's decision and review by legal counsel]
